Synopsis

When two become three, it’s guaranteed the earth will move.

Patrick’s life with his shifter mate Greg is idyllic. In love and lust, they exist in a wonderful bubble of contentment and satisfaction in the Redwood Forest, giving in to their needs and desires whenever the mood takes them.

Until one day Patrick stumbles across a wild dog. His wounds are shocking, but it’s even more sickening how he got them.

Neither Patrick nor Greg can abandon the poor creature and they take him into their home and their hearts. But when the new addition to their family turns out to be so much more than a dog, can they act on what their bodies are crying out for? Will a third man in their relationship upset the applecart? He certainly thinks it will and it seems he’ll need convincing otherwise.

Review

Another quick sexy read from the Redwood Pack. I really loved how romantic yet slightly kinky Patrick and Greg were. There is a genuine connection that is visible in the story. I wish we had more build up of their relationship and definitely more on page from Carlos but alas novella are short and sweet and never give us enough.

Carlos was a character that had briefly shown up in the last book, but we don’t know much about it. We learn a little, but not much in this one since the point of view of this one is told from Patrick. I had one issue with the inconsistencies with Patrick's thoughts. Carlos would say something like “I want that” and Patrick would think “Oh no, does he want it” which did knock me out of the flow of the story.

Overall, a sweet sexy short story that pushed the overall story of the Pack a bit ahead but not much.

Review

First, I’d have to say this is not a standalone series of books. You must read each one in order to truly understand the overarching storyline of the Redwood Pack. This is a continuation of the story line from ‘Finding You’ were one of the Alpha’s mates, Julie, was taken. Although it doesn’t have much to do with it, there are parts of that story still mentioned.

I definitely connected with Davey much more in this story than I did with the characters of the previous one. He’s the loner of the pack but fiercely loyal to his Alpha and pack. A pack he thinks of as family. What I loved about him most was the way he processed events. He struggled with what he felt was his failure in helping find Julie, but in that, he found something else. A mate. But he never faltered on the realization that he was gay it was more that his destined mate was a mountain lion shifter. He knew things weren’t going to be easy.

I wish we got a more in depth feel of his mate Lawson but since the story is told entirely from Davey’s point of view and it was a novella that didn’t happen. The story would’ve been better for it, but really it’s the curse of the shorter stories...never enough in them. Overall Lily’s writing is good, and the pacing fit the story, and I definitely felt invested in his happily ever after.

Review

I’m not really sure what it was about the story as a whole that just didn’t grab me. It was well written, and nothing was wrong with it, but for a shorter story, it didn’t hold my attention. It might be that I hadn’t read book one in the series before reading this one but again...not sure.

I loved the banter between Aleco and Pedro. It gave us a glimpse of who they are together. Since I hadn’t read the first one, I had no preconceived ideas about their relationship, but I still felt like there was a part missing, a deeper love that wasn’t shown to me as I read.

The disappearance of their third, Julie, was a surprise to them and although most of that emotion came through, the author didn’t flesh out the why’s of her disappearance as well as they could. It is a short story, so that’s something that I don’t put much faith in since writing a full-length plot in such a short story is one of the hardest things I’ve found to be done.

It overall was a good short sexy read with cute banter and some danger, but for me, it just didn’t hit the right spots as a paranormal lover.
