Synopsis

Sold at the age of twelve to support his mother’s drug habit and rescued from a life on the streets by a cop, thirty-two-year-old Tony Locke had had a brutal start in life.
He’d risen to the position of homicide detective in the Everlight Police Department—a testament to his intelligence and driving ambition to help other victims of Everlight's prolific industry in sex and drugs. With his promotion to the hush-hush Interdimensional Task Force, he could broaden his reach—if he could just get along with his a-hole of a partner.
Leo Fortan labored under a soul-crushing burden of sacrifice, trapped in a lonely and rigid existence. Hand-picked from that existence and assigned to the Interdimensional Task Force, he thought his life had taken a turn for the better—until he met his partner, Tony Locke. Leo thought it probable they would kill each other.
For a man who thought love didn’t exist and a man who’d sacrificed everything for it, finding common ground may require more than an incident of magic.

Review

An Incident of Magic is book two in Kris Michaels & Patricia A. Knight’s Everlight series. The focal point in this book is Tony and Silk. Though we see Sable and Hiro a lot and even get their POV a bit it’s mainly Tony and Silk’s show.

Silk is from Elysium and when I say he is beautiful inside and out I really mean that. He’s selfless beyond words and brave and a million other things. When the book starts off he and his partner Tony aren’t getting along. At all! To the point they both want to be reassigned. So, a bit of an enemies to lovers trope thing happening here.

Tony’s past has dictated his future and the purpose it holds. Personality wise I loved him. He’s funny, very accident prone, and has a sweet heart. When Silk and Tony finally get their heads out of their butts they are a hot, steamy, adorable couple.

In this book, the story of the murders, sex slaves, drugs, and power are still going on. Full steam ahead…. We get some answers but are still left with many. A plan perhaps? I suspect and hope that in the next book of the series we get more answers. I will say the epilogue really gave me a lot of hope for that.

I still can’t seem to follow all the names for things and how it all works but I follow it enough to know what’s going on. I like that in this book the number of people on Hiro and Sable’s side is growing. Those two needed the help and I can’t think of two better guys than Tony and Silk to help them solve this completely!
Great book and awesome series.

Synopsis

He smells the stink of political maneuvering in this case and he can see the handwriting on the wall. Hell, the words are three feet high and written in crayon. Someone in his own agency wants a target on Liam Mercier’s back but McKenzie would be damned if he’d put one there. The damaged man currently in his custody needs his protection, not manipulation. That’s why he’d agreed to use a safe house that was off the grid. Throwing away his rarely used FBI procedure book had nothing to do with the protective urges he felt around Liam. Nope, not a damn thing to do with heavy doses of desire, or spikes of lust. He was just doing his job, after all, he has a killer to catch and a victim to keep alive. Protecting his best bet of taking that sick bastard down was his civic duty.

Forced to face the nightmares of his past or lose his pension, Liam Mercier did the only thing he could do. He walked back into his personal hell. The man assigned to protect him is everything Liam wanted and needed—four years ago. Leaving the small island of sanity he’d been existing on could cost him everything. But being hunted by a genius, sadistic killer without the protection of the sexy, intense, agent was a guaranteed death sentence. Fate had dictated Liam’s course four years ago. The only thing he questioned was when his killer going to finish his work.

Review

Okay, so, I swear I read the blurb…. I did! This was a very suspenseful book! My sweet, kind heart! As unprepared as I was, my own fault, this was the type of book I love! A psychological thriller. Having taken forensic psychology in college I am always fascinated with the minds of serial killers.

In A Heart’s Desire we are really thrown in there. It’s told in duel POV. Steele, a current FBI agent assigned to track down a serial killer who escaped. Liam who is this psychopath’s only living victim. When I say victim I mean by the time he was rescued you wonder how he lived at all. I can’t imagine having a killer’s attention for one day let alone the thirteen Liam endured.

From the beginning, literally the first page, I knew this was going to take a road into darkness. But Kris Michaels did something quite wonderful. She balanced it. She brought light back into Liam’s life and gave him his strength back.

Now, if you think the author just was all “catch the guy the end” than you’re sadly mistaken! This killer doesn’t go down without a fight, and leaving his mark on many.

If you’re a fan of these types of books AND you have a strong stomach than grab this one! There were parts I winced at I won’t lie. This guy is pretty much my worst nightmare. I’ve read Kris Michaels a few times and her versatility as an author is a huge treat! Make sure you check this out!

Synopsis

An Evidence of Magic—69K M/M procedural crime romance in an alternate reality.

Forty-year-old, hard bitten, foul-mouthed, homicide detective, Hiro Santos, suspects the owner of the art studio committed the gory killing. Too bad. There are other things he'd like to do to the gorgeous young man than book him for murder. Worse, his sexy suspect is certifiable. The nutcase claims he's some kind of high wizard from an alternate reality and needs Hiro's help to save their worlds.

While the striking Sable Campion appears a youthful twenty-five, he’s endured over two-hundred lonely years as guardian of the portal between Everlight and Elysium. None of those centuries offered him any experience finding a vicious killer. That's where Hiro Santos comes in; but convincing the virile detective to trust Sable will take all his persuasive skills...and perhaps a bit of magic.

The magic they find in each other's arms will rock each of their realities.

Review

This is the start of a great series right here. Kris Michaels and Patricia Knight have joined forces to create a gripping and entertaining fantasy/paranormal romance/mystery. Yeah it’s all those things.
Hiro is a detective. Sable is a wizard. Each from a different dimension… sort of. Sable bounces around. Well, I don’t want to give anything huge away but it’s amazing. Hiro, the character, is a mystery in himself. He’s much more than you see or that he even knows. That’s one mystery. Another is the fact that some big wig from Sable’s dimension is brutally murdering people and no one knows who is doing it.

There’s mafia, wizards, foo dogs, gritty cops, and excitement going on here. I have to say, I thought at first there was a lot to take in and I’d get lost but I didn’t, not once. Kris and Patricia really weaved this story well. No confusion with the characters or the plot. Great pacing as well.
Sable is fabulous. He’s so lovely not in just his ethereal beauty but his heart. He’s a gorgeous man inside and out and just the person a rough and tough detective needs.

We follow these two through their investigation and get all sorts of wrapped up in the corruption that festers in both dimensions.

There’s an underlining message to this story. In Sable’s world status, pureblood are worthy of all the great things and cross breeds are mutts, scum, worthless. This story really shows how fractured their society is… kind of like ours. So, the parallels were interesting.

I really look forward to book two in this series. It’s captivating and exciting!

Excerpt

“I’m finished here for the moment. Get me back to Everlight.”

He nodded and stood up from the sofa. “Of course. Stand next to me.”

Hiro stepped to within two arm’s lengths.

“A little closer, please.”

The detective eyed him suspiciously. “What? We having some sorta ‘Kumbaya’ moment?”

Sable dropped his head and bit the inside of his lower lip to conceal his smile. He raised his gaze. “The closer your proximity to me, the less energy I have to exert to open the portal.”

The light of challenge gleamed in Hiro’s eyes as he stepped up to him, wrapped an arm around his waist and jerked him against the detective’s muscular chest. Sable felt the man press his groin into his. Santos hardened against him and a provocative shiver traced erotic fingers up Sable’s spine. Mere inches away, Hiro’s brown eyes found his. “How’s this work for you, magician? Close enough?”

The man was taunting him. He knew it, and still, it was all he could do not to groan, close his mouth over the detective’s lush lips and inhale him. He trembled with the need to grind his cock against Hiro’s. Instead of doing either, he murmured, “Works just fine for me, detective.”
