Synopsis

It’s no surprise Riley Connors is dealing with issues. He was kidnapped as a young boy, and his parents abandoned him after his newsworthy return. He bounced from foster home to facility and back. Now an adult, ghosts from his past continue to haunt him. After a suicide attempt, he is locked away in Hartfield so that people can make him tune in to emotions he has tried to bury.

Hunter Morgan had the kind of love that spans ages. But the stress of college and adulthood became too much to handle, and the love of Hunter’s life turned to drugs. After he overdoses, Hunter finds himself soaring out of control on the same miserable path. His brother finds him and calls an ambulance, and the sister Hunter would rather not have calls it a suicide attempt, landing Hunter in Hartfield.

Finding love isn’t easy, but it can happen under the most dire circumstances. Together Hunter and Riley may be able to grow from their pain. But they will need to learn to live for themselves, letting love come second.

Review

I chose We Found Love as my flashback Friday review for one simple reason. After reading this book nearly three years ago, it is still just as alive in my heart as the day it buried itself there.

I still don’t have the words to explain to you what this story had done for me at the time. I cried which is no small accomplishment for an author, and when it comes to me because I gotta tell you I don’t cry often. Riley broke me and stayed with me, and I totally got him. The need to be needed is a familiar feeling I’ve gone through.

This was one of the first books I read that dealt with mental health and I wish there were much more like this out there because it was done so freaking well that every person needs to read it.

Hunter had been through so much in such a short period that I wondered how he hadn’t done more damage to himself. These two guys do not give you an easy journey to go on but one that is so freaking worthy of the box or two of tissues that you’ll need to get through it.

The one statement that resonated the most with me was something Hunter said..."Honesty. That's what he had, all he could process." For someone with depression, this is such a true statement. Being  honest with yourself and your loved ones is the best way to get through.
