Synopsis

"His name is Salvatore Rossi. He's a vampire. And he's my true mate."
By not relying on anyone except himself, Salvatore Rossi escaped a dead-end existence and reached the height of corporate success. But just when he has everything he always wanted, fate throws Salvatore a challenge he can't solve alone, and a young wolf-shifter comes to his rescue.
Since childhood, Yoram Smith's family was certain he would grow to become alpha and save their beloved pack from its slow demise. When the time comes for a new leader, Yoram is forced to juggle his duty to care for a splintering pack with his duty to care for an absent mate, and his own strength suffers. Being turned into a vampire didn't alter Salvatore's life philosophy: If you don't rely on anyone, nobody can let you down. But when the boy who saved his life becomes a man who needs his help, the icy vampire must find his humanity.

Review

I loved this story before listening to it on audio, and Charlie David just made me fall in love with these guys even harder.

Outside of Ethan and Miguel, this was the only other vampire mating in this shifter series, and just like their book, it is one of my favorites of the series. Yoram was seven when he met his true mate, and even at that age he was smart and determined and a character I loved. As he grew going through things most children, then teenagers wouldn’t have to go through, he not only stayed the same person but matured and became such a strong young man that my love for him never changed. His loyalty to Sal, his pack, and his friends his beyond measure.

Sal, his vampire mate, basically rejects him and that not only breaks Yoram’s heart but takes a physical toll as well. But his loyalty and determination never wain. He stood by Sal even when the man was completely unaware. See why I love him? When the Yoram was the one that needed saving I had high hope that Sal would feel the pull to help, not just as his mate but as a man that had a heart he was probably unaware was there.

This book takes place over many, many years and it seems that these two guys were never on the same page. I wonder if Sal would’ve taken the option to save his life the first time around if he knew that he’d end up where he did.

This wasn’t a nail-biter type book, but it was one that I couldn’t put down. Charlie David, the narrator, made that even more impossible. Good thing I can listen and do other things! The narrator always gives a unique voice to the characters he’s giving life to, and he doesn’t disappoint in this story either. It's one that I plan to listen to over and over again!
