Review

Leta Blake and Indra Vaughn totally had me hanging by the edge of bed reading Cowboy Seeks Husband.

I personally can say that I do not like any shows where one goes on claiming to look for love. Yes, I am that lady that has NEVER watched the Bachelor and only once watched the Bachelorette. Sorry, I just can't wrap my head around catty women and desperate men trying to act like they fell in love with these people in a matter of weeks.

That's why I had a thrill when I read this book! It was as if I was getting a sneak peek at what probably was behind all those crazy reality love shows. Between the overbearing creator to the snippy producers, and the whiny and jilted contestants; it was definitely entertaining to read how they would view a reality love connection show.

From the very beginning you know that the Cowboy they picked was not very keen on the idea of having his farm surrounded by all these Hollywood type people. Then the idea of having to pretend to like guys he has never meet and who probably didn't know a thing about farm life. Walker was definitely my kind of Cowboy! Kind, sweet, tall, sexy those two didn't play around when it came to writing their cowboy!

Roan is just in it for the money! No way a city boy like him would ever dare think about living on a farm! Especially, in Louisiana! Between the bugs, spiders, and snakes and that's just a few things that come to mind! Wow! His character had me in stitches laughing so hard at his antics during the taping.

What I absolutely loved most about this book, it just didn't focus on the sham of the reality love connection, it gave you an insight on two men who, for all intents and purposes, probably would have never crossed paths had it not been for the show. Not only that, but they refused to let it dictate their feelings!! Holy moly the sexual tension was nothing compared to the explosive sex!!!!

“We’re going what?”

“Noodling.” Walker looked far too calm. And smug. Roan figured this probably heralded danger in brooding southern cowboys.

“And I need these.” Roan held up the waterproof bib overalls.

Walker smirked. He had his arms folded over his chest and was leaning against the doorjamb of the kitchen. Roan had been cornered there by Walker and John while making sour apple tea. “Technically you don’t, but I’m sure you’ll want to wear them.”

Roan narrowed his eyes. “But that means we’re going into the water. I know what lives in your water down here. Alligators. And venomous snakes. I googled.”

“Now, why would you do that?” Walker dramatically slapped his forehead, then leaned in closer as if to share a secret. Roan leaned in too, drawn to Walker’s firm, muscled body and cheerful brown eyes, despite his probable imminent death on this so-called date. “Here’s the thing: gators aren’t that aggressive really. You probably won’t even see one. They want to stay as far away from you as you do from them.”

“Really?”

“No. But it makes it easier to get in the water if you tell yourself that.”

Roan stared at him.

“But, seriously, I’m not scared of the gators, and if there was a real, true danger, you know they wouldn’t let us anywhere near the water.”

Roan swallowed hard. The morning light from the kitchen window highlighted the little wrinkles at the edges of Walker’s eyes. Probably from squinting into fields all day. The man even smelled like fresh-cut grass and fresh air.

“As for the snakes, yeah…well.” Walker shrugged. “You just have to make sure you don’t wander into a nest of moccasins. I’m sure the set nurse has antivenom on hand.”

“Water moccasins. The shoe snakes.”

“They don’t look anything like shoes.”

Roan put the waterproof overalls on the counter. “Oh my God, I’m going to die.”

Walker straightened, and the attractive, teasing grin fell from his face. “Seriously, though, if you don’t want to do it, just say so. I won’t hold it against you.”

“If you say bless your heart, I’ll know exactly what you mean,” Roan grumbled. Walker laughed, and God. He was so damn handsome. Feeling his face heat, Roan looked down at the dry bib overalls. They were pretty thick. Maybe the fabric would stop the snake bites. “Fine, I’ll come.”

“I’m mighty glad.”

“You should be.”

Between the threat of biting critter, the thrill of Walker’s sweet drawl, and the headiness of his eager attention, Roan’s head was a swirl. Leaving his tea behind untasted, he stomped away for some privacy to get changed, ignoring John who said, “That’s got to be the most reluctant acceptance of a date I’ve ever seen. Andy’s going to love it.”

Nathaniel O’Donnelly likes his life quiet, his guests happy, and his ghosts well-behaved.

Although a boyfriend wouldn’t go amiss. Someone to share his beautiful B&B with, even if it is in the middle of nowhere and he’s long past the wrong side of thirty. Problem is, Nathaniel's living with a ghost who thinks he’s cupid, and whose arrows fly a little too straight.

Gabriel Wickfield had the unfortunate luck of dying before his time, and now he’s stuck trying to make romance happen to earn his right to move along. Not that he’s bored in the meantime--Nathaniel is just too easy to tease. And also a little bit scrumptious…

With the curse reaching its expiration date, Gabriel needs to make a final match this Christmas. Without it, nothing but darkness awaits.

Love can conquer all, but can it beat death?

I knew going into this I was going to cry. I knew because 1, Indra Vaughn prides herself on her ability to master unrequited love. 2, one of the MC’s is dead. Right from the start, it’s not a spoiler it’s in the blurb. I was like, “How the heck is this going to be a happily ever after?” I won’t tell you if it is or isn’t… I will say I hate sad ending and this book I did not hate… I WON’T TELL YOU… leave me alone!

Nathaniel and Gabriel are splendid. Truly. Two remarkable men from different times having so much in common. One physically trapped, the other internally. I love how Indra made the impossible possible. This was a true tale of love conquering all and warmed my heart and my soul!

Read so you can feel. Because some books will flay you with words, while others will caress your skin. Some, if you’re lucky, will do both at the same time.
Read because you have too much on your plate. Or not enough. Read because you can’t think of anything else to do. Read because you don’t want to do all the things you should.
Read what you want. Don’t let anyone tell you any different. Words are words and books are books and what you feel is real.

Read to remember. Read to forget. Read because it brings you quiet or because it gives you a voice. Read to revisit places you’ve already been. Or discover countries you’ve never heard of. Read because you’re lonely. Read because you need to be alone.
Read because it will make you smarter. It will teach you compassion and empathy and love. Read because you’re too smart and you can’t stop thinking. And thinking. And thinking.

If nothing else, read so the poor authors can keep hurtling themselves into their writing, in the deep of the night when nothing else can be heard but the sound of their despair tap-tapping away at the keyboard. In between wiping chocolate-sticky fingers on their pants, that is—if they’re even wearing any.
