Synopsis

In the village of Torrenta, master painter Morello has created a color that mimics the most expensive pigment of all, the crimson red. Master Zeno, from strife-ridden Medici Florence, tells him the color gives him a competitive advantage – but Morello must be careful. Fraud is ever-present in the dye and pigment markets.

As they work together in Torrenta, Morello falls hard for Zeno’s assistant, Benedetto Tagliaferro, a young man of uncommon beauty and intelligence. Benedetto is still fixed on his old lover, the master painter Leo Guisculo, and cannot return Morello’s affections.

But when Leo dies in a terrible accident, it’s to Morello that Zeno and Benedetto turn for help. And Morello soon finds that in Florence, every surface hides layers of intrigue.

Review

I fell in love with this author’s writing when I read her Heart and Haven series and again her writing and descriptions of the world of historical Italy. This was a first for me even as someone that loves historical stories they often are not based in Italy.

The writing was beautiful and vivid. The characters were well fleshed out with their story told with detail bringing to life the world at that time and their struggle in it. It was suspenseful but well balanced with the love story of Morello and Benedetto.

Morello was authentic, fresh, and sweet. Morello was very obviously crushing on Benedetto. I liked Benedetto well enough and his mistakes didn’t annoy me. He was young and still so hung up on his old lover which lead him to make some bad decisions. Those decisions had disastrous consequences but also ended with him being closer to Morello. Although I loved that Benedetto and Morello were together, I wasn't completely sold on their chemistry. I think it was more of a "me" thing than a writing thing since the author did bring to life this world. And I think that loss of connection with the characters is what led me to be impressed by the story but not overly attached to it.

The suspense and mystery were well written and presented. Keeping the reader wanting to see the resolution isn’t always easy when it comes to these stories, but from previous reads of this authors, I can tell you she has the talent for it.

Synopsis

ER physician's assistant Hunter guards his heart carefully, but that doesn't stop him from falling for Shawn, the front desk clerk.  He keeps his distance from relationships for a reason, but just can't help himself when it comes to Shawn.
Shawn is on the run from the law and love to protect himself and anyone else involved. One man is dead because of him, and his life now is simple and easily thrown into a bag at any hint of danger. Until he meets Hunter, and he no longer wants to run.
Forced into a hostage situation, buried passion explodes in the aftermath, and sex in the supply closet brings their hearts back to life. Tentatively, step by step, they begin to explore a relationship together until the past catches up with Shawn.
FBI agent Nick Truman has finally found his man, but when Shawn escapes, he focuses his attention on Hunter. Shawn returns, even though it means sacrificing himself to save Hunter from the man who framed him for murder.

Hitting Black Ice

Two damaged men. One with a secret and one with a past he can’t seem to escape. Love isn't always easy but for these two the world is working against them in more ways than one. Do they just walk away of what could have been or do they fight for each other and the future they could have?

Hunter works as a physician's assistant at the ER a place that gives him purpose and helps him work through his demons by helping others. He is a work in progress trying to overcome a past that won’t go away when he gets a major crush on the front desk clerk Shawn. When he gets rejected by Shawn he think that's the end but of course life has ways of taking fate out of our hands.

Shawn has a secret that he is desperate to keep hidden because exposing it could mean his death. But after a hostage situation and one moment of passion makes it hard for him to walk away from Hunter even though he knows it not only puts himself at risk but Hunter as well. When push comes to shove he knows he has to give up on the love if he wants to save the one he loves. Shawn disappears and HUnter learns the truth...or does he?

This was a really awesome story full of action and hot sexy scenes that just grabbed you along for the ride. I really loved the development of Hunter along the way with him being able to confront the past to be able to move forward plus watching him choose love over the job that feeds his soul was truly a great step for him. Both are very well developed characters that were both damaged by someone else’s actions but in turn save each other from the path they thought their lives were on. I felt the beginning was a little slow at times but overall it had great pacing. The secondary characters didn’t feel like secondary characters to me since so many played a major role in the ongoing story of Hunter and Alex, aka Shawn, for the whole book. Which I can say is something I love that not a lot of authors or stories achieve.

Overall a great read and I cannot wait to start book 2 Send Lawyers, Guns, and Roses!!

Synopsis

When Hunter and Alex (formally Shawn) are given the vacation of a lifetime, it’s a chance for them to pay attention to romance and get out of the path of danger. The tiny Caribbean island of Saba is gorgeous, the first to have marriage equality, and the Sabans are the nicest people on earth.

There’s lots of rum poolside for relaxing and a room with a mirror on the ceiling for passion. Hot karaoke nights, cold beer, and new friends.

Their new friends Orfeo and Max, and Max’s sister Talisha, share a troubling secret. Alex and Hunter want to help. As a hurricane bears down on them, a dead body surfaces, and a purple backpack loaded with stolen jewels leads a pair of dangerous men to the island.

Alex would rather poke his own eyes out with a pointy stick than call on his old enemy Nick Truman for help; he’d also do anything to keep Hunter out of danger. But even his nemesis can’t reach them now.

Once again, they only have each other to depend on as their paradise is about to become hell on earth.

In Hitting Black Ice we get to meet two damaged men Hunter and Alex, aka Shawn, that we are able to help each other get over their past and overcome the danger hounding them. This book is about their continued struggle to stay together despite everyone telling them it won’t work and the new obstacles coming their way.

Alex and Hunter have come a long way in a short amount of time. But they are strong and as long as they keep communicating they can stay that way. Alex had to find a new him after being on the run for so long because he is no longer the man that wanted to educate children, he has changed way too much for that. But he has found a new purpose, becoming an FBI agent. Hunter isn’t happy with this because he feels it will put Alex in danger and take him away from Hunter way more than he likes. The past and its dangers always seem to be there taking focus away from each other so given the opportunity from Alex’s mom's to get away for three weeks, they take it. What could go wrong?

I thought Hitting Black Ice was action packed, this one takes the cake! The action scenes were better and kept me on the edge of my seat. The mystery of Orfeo, Max, and Talisha are keeping hidden is driving Alex and Hunter crazy. Through asking questions of the trio they become friends and when all is finally revealed they decide that they NEED to help. Again these guys find themselves in a dangerous place that could take them from each other but their love and faith carry them through despite hurricanes, Russian mob, and jewel thieves!

Hunter was so broken last book that he dead ex kept creeping into his head at the worst of times making him doubt himself, I was happy to see that he has come a long way when in this book that didn’t happen. DO not get me wrong he still has panic attacks but the author has shown us that he is improving. Alex also has grown up so much since book one, he still has his doubts that Hunter really wants to stay with him but overall this character has proven he can change and grow.

Truly a great action packed book with danger, the beach, and of course smoking hot love! I hope that we can see a book 3 because Hunter and Alex make a great team, in and out of the bed ;)
