Former Federal Agent Yuri Sorenson had left the bureau behind to become a private investigator. A friend from his old life came to him with a favor, not knowing who else to trust. Yuri had always had a way of keeping his emotional distance from the people he protected, yet that changed the day Clarkson hesitantly limped into his life.

What happens when love is confused with pain? That’s the exact question Josh Clarkson had asked himself for years. He’d grown up in an overburdened foster care system, and from what he knew of love, he couldn’t expect anything but to be something tolerated. Was he meant to be more than a plaything or a piece of scenery; he could hope.

Two men who know nothing but being broken find that patience and acceptance are harder than losing hope. Is the leap of faith worth the reward of letting someone else in? Maybe they’ll find the strength to find out before the danger of Josh’s past tries to tear them apart.

When an Author Needs a Challenge After Major Burnout

For years now I’ve written everything from snark to Sadists, but for me I require a challenge. To do my best to write a different book every time I sit down and create a new project. Sometimes that’s hard, so many authors out there come up with new ideas every day.

I wrote a series called Trenton Security and it gave me a bit of an addiction to write mystery and suspense with action thrown in. It was fun and the details kept me focused. When I wrote The End on the final book in the series recently, I got to thinking about what I wanted to do next. I have a ton of stories that are waiting for me to write them, but as I needed a challenge. That’s where Not Another Statistic came in.

It all started with a picture in my Facebook newsfeed. Golden Czermak of FuriousFotog. If anyone has read my books you know I don’t write the typical characters. As a Body Positive/Diverse author, I’m always looking for stock images, custom or otherwise, that’s different. That’s where Kevin Davis came in.

He was the perfect face for my character Yuri Sorenson. Not Another Statistic was a partial I’d written years ago but put aside. Seeing Kevin’s images by Golden brought the project back to life and the Yuri Sorenson Mystery series was reborn.

I needed something different. A new place to focus my creativity. Every author at one time or another gets burned out and let me tell you I found myself exhausted. Losing the spark and happiness I always had when writing my stories. They’re my therapy—my happy place—and I’d lost that for a bit.

What’s so challenging about this series, well, it features the same main characters. That’s something I haven’t done before. I’ve had cameos from previous characters showing up, but never a continued series with the same Mains. I can’t wait to share Yuri and Josh with my readers and hopefully find some new ones in the process. There’s always been a weakness in me for detective novels and finally being able to focus on mysteries is exciting.

There’s four planned at the moment, but I sincerely feel that I can write more. I’m just going to start small. If readers give it a chance I hope they enjoy it.

I want to thank Mere and Diverse Reader for allowing me to share my cover reveal today.

There is nothing more they want from telling their stories than to show that no matter the package the characters come in or the damage their pasts have done, that love is love. That normal is never normal and sometimes the so-called broken can still be amazing.
