Blurb

Nicholas Herald had one job to do for his big sister’s wedding. ONE. So of course, he forgets all about promising to book the harpist he knows for the elegant reception. With only a week to go, and his options running out fast, he resorts to asking a busker he finds performing on the city streets to step in and help save the day.

As it turns out though, this guy Fynn is pretty amazing with his guitar, and he has the most beautiful eyes – not that Nicholas is looking. But it becomes quickly apparent that finding a musician is the least of Nicholas’s problems. Between last minute cancellations, wayward family members, and a cat with a serious vendetta against happiness, he knows he’ll be lucky if they all make it to the big day intact.

He just doesn’t have time to fall in love, let alone with a boy However, like almost everything else in the week to come, he may not exactly have a choice…

A stand alone, New Adult romance with a happy ending.

Review

Helen Juliet is a new author to me. A Ballad of Confetti, Cake, and Catastrophes (love that title) is a cute story. Not a lot of angst at all. It's what I call a sexual discovery. It's on the cusp of New Adult. Age wise it falls into the NA area but there were so many things about this that screamed YA to me.

This is a long read, maybe a bit too long. There were some parts that were unnecessary or they dragged out too long. It didn't irritate me, I just thought it could have been tightened.

LOVED the secondary characters and the broad spectrum of LGBTQA+ pulled into this story. There's not nearly enough of that in books these days in my opinion. Major props there.

Nicholas is quite a character, a puzzle even. He's extremely insecure, it borders on an almost manic insecurity. If I were his friend I would encourage him to seek counseling. It was a little annoying at times but it more just made me worry about him.

Fynn is a saving grace in this book. Fynn loves being with Nicholas. He opens his eyes to what he truly wants and who he truly is. He lifts him up and even while the wedding is falling apart around them, Fynn keeps Nicholas together. He shows him happiness.

This is an enjoyable read. Some minor issues for me that in no way took away from the sweetness of the story.
