Nick and Cameron face old demons, and find new love, on a Christmas road trip.

Former Marine Nick Sheridan is at a crossroads. With his entire life ahead of him he struggles to find direction and his place in the world. Car sharing to get home for his sister’s Christmas wedding seems like a good idea at first. Spending the time with the man he kissed and left years before, maybe not so much.

Cameron Bennett lost most of his teenage years to cancer and he now lives every day to the fullest. He decides to drive from Seattle to Vermont for his best friend’s wedding and capture moments of it on film. He hadn’t planned on car sharing with the man who kissed him ten years ago, but somehow he ends up with a brooding Nick by his side.

Along the way, the men learn that sometimes life plans mean nothing in the grand scheme of things. Love can be found in the most unexpected of ways, and facing your demons head on is sometimes the only way to live.

Thanks for having us today at Diverse Reader, here we've answered a few questions from our readers :)

Cameron is a survivor of childhood cancer, losing much of his teen years to it. I felt like it made his feelings for Nick way more complicated than a normal relationship, do you both agree?

RJ: Absolutely. Poor Cameron lost out on his teenage years, that point where you form relationships and see how the world works. He experiences a lot of pity from people, and when Nick kisses him all he sees is that Nick feels sorry for him. Ten years on, he doesn’t think that this has changed. We didn’t write this feeling as going on for a long time, but it definitely shaped the initial meetings and the first few days of the road trip.

Meredith: Yeah. I guess in Cameron’s case it made him doubt Nick’s intentions when they were younger with the kiss. The whole was it out of sympathy kind of thing. But also it affected how he viewed the future. His and theirs together.

RJ: I think we made Nick strong enough to push past Cameron’s angsting – made him see that the last thing Nick felt was pity!

Meredith: Though Nick had his own stuff going on he was still quite the no nonsense kind of guy, so yeah, I think he might get through to Cameron in the end :)

RJ: Not giving anything away… LOL

Do either of you have an opinion on the whole *adding cranberries to everything at Christmas* situation?

RJ: I just remember that at Halloween it seems like pumpkin is added to everything, and then at Christmas, it’s like cranberries appear to be added to everything you want to eat. There is also one hell of a lot of cranberry candles, shampoos, bubble baths, and room scents, alongside a ton of pine related scents.

Meredith: It’s Christmas so I’m happy to go with it lol. I don’t eat cranberry sauce or cranberries, so it being added to things probably passes me by. I think the only think I might have had was maybe I tried a cheese once off some platter. Wasn’t a fan. But certainly there’s mulled this and spiced that and plenty of products given a Christmas overhaul. Candles are usually the thing I fall for. They smell so good and makes everything feel all warm and cosy.

RJ: It’s almost like, if a company add Cranberries (pine etc) it evokes Christmas, and then people will spend more money. I fall for it every time. LOL

What’s next for the two of you with your own writing?

Meredith: *ducks flying objects* I’m still working on Dead Things 2. Real life has held me up a little or rather a lot. But there’s that and then a couple of other books in series I’d like to work on through 2017. I’m reluctant to make plans as I’m not a fan of panicking over deadlines. I like to trundle along.

RJ: I’m currently working on Ghost, which is book 9 in the Sanctuary series. The story will be with you February. Then onto my second MF Hockey book, The Heart, and then on to Gabriel, the second in the Legacy series which is a spin off from my Texas series. Busy start to the year. Oh and also I’m co authoring with Meredith on our new Cops series.

Meredith: Yeah, I’m looking forward to working together on that. It’ll be different to the other books we’ve worked on together, which have been gentler, really routed in the romance side to the stories.

RJ: The cover art for Cops is beautiful (as is every cover from Meredith!) and we have plans for at least three books. Am excited.

Meredith: What are you after? But yes, I’m excited about writing something new with RJ.
