Synopsis

Beau thought Aaron was dead to him… Imagine his surprise when his former lover slinks into his tattoo shop.

Six months ago vampire Beaudelaire Delacourte had it all. As a tattoo artist, he used his special ink and spells to permanently tattoo other immortals and spent countless hours feeding and indulging in BDSM with his human lover, Aaron. Then he asked to turn Aaron so his lover could join him permanently, but Aaron refused, not willing to give up his humanity. Since then, Beau has kept his head down and stayed in his shop, only interacting with the clients who come for his special brand of ink.

When Aaron shows up on his doorstep, half-dead and apologizing, Beau is shocked to learn that his boy was turned at the vampire club they used to frequent by Stephen, another vampire. Not only was Aaron turned, but his chest was torn open, his fangs were broken and he was left in an alley to die. Spurred by the need to see Beau one last time, Aaron has been hiding in an abandoned building until he found the strength to make it to Beau’s shop.

Beau takes in his boy again, promising that Aaron will earn his place back in Beau’s bed, and vowing that he will take revenge on Stephen. Unbeknownst to Beau, Aaron is only the first in a long line of humans who Stephen has created then turned out to fend for themselves. As Beau discovers this is only one of the old rules that Stephen has broken, he and Aaron are drawn into a web of intrigue that can only end in someone’s death.

Review

I am not new to Sean Michaels work and if anyone can write hot and sexy it is this author! And that is exactly what we get in this book, a hot read about a vampire, Beau, who gets his heartbroken by his love, Aaron, when he turns away from eternity with him and Aaron who then turns up six months later, now a vampire against his will. What happens next is a story about the struggle for them to get back to where they were all the while Beau, the Master, has to nurse Aaron back to health after the torture he survived.

Beau is hell bent on making Aaron pay for the hurt he caused him by not just turning away from him but making the stupid mistake that landed him in a place that he allowed him to be turned against his will. And punish him he will because he is Aaron’s Master and no one else. But Aaron is broken, not just in body but in mind. From being left alone and starving for so long after getting turned, his mind is weak and ripe the picking. And our resident bad guy tries and tries to get Aaron back but he doesn’t count on Beau being able to help Aaron.

Although I know that Sean tends to write a lot of really hot sex scenes in his books, for me, this time it was too much. I felt the sex was what we were supposed to assume was the connection that allowed these two characters to build back up their bond and break down the “makers” bond that Aaron had with the bad guy. But I got more connection out of the other times with them, which were rare, than I did the sex scenes. Watching Aaron grown and with the help of Beau build back up in confidence not only in himself but in his belief that he was worthy of his Master was great. The secondary characters rang kind of flat for me some made brief appearances like Matty that we had no background and had never even heard of before that appearance. Some like Marisa and Harrington, Beau’s “siblings” were there on and off but still without much interaction or background they played their part but not much else.

I loved the tattoo artist with magic twist since in most vampire stories they cannot get tattooed! Aaron was by far my favorite character in the story since he was the one that had the most growth so we got to know him the best. Now remember we all read a story differently so although this is what I got out the book you may read something much different so do not shy away from giving it a go. I know we are going to be getting more stories in this series and I will be definitely giving them a try.
